iSOFT launches Laboratory Information System in New Zealand

9 August 2006

From today iSOFT's LabCentre, one of Europe's leading laboratory information systems, is available in New Zealand.

Currently installed in over 200 sites in and around Germany LabCentre was designed specifically as a highly flexible and interoperable system to support and improve almost any laboratory organisation. The user can model organisational processes to suit individual requirements and not only in the laboratory. LabCentre has assisted laboratories at existing installations to improve workflow efficiency and accreditation.

LabCentre is a GUI-based system, encompassing clinical laboratory, blood group serology, product depot, as well as blood donation and microbiology operations. With the inclusion of Laboratory Information Centre (LIC) module, LabCentre also provides a communication service for placing orders and transmitting results, for example, to the ward or outpatients department. By using this integrated system, clinicians have access to a central databank to find patient information, and requests for examinations can be made on a common form.

"The key element in every laboratory organisation is sample management," said Neville McGrath, iSOFT's Laboratory Systems, Solutions Consultant "LabCentre provides a highly flexible and user-friendly solution, and will greatly improve the efficiency of sample management."

In addition the Laboratory Information Centre module allows for paperless operations for order requests and transmits results irrespective of the hospital information system - a fast and reliable communication system between hospital and laboratory. External order placers can interface with this system.

"After careful analysis of the local market it was decided that LabCentre would provide the company with a strong competitive advantage within this segment of the New Zealand market," said Nigel Lutton, iSOFT's Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand. "This also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide advanced clinical solutions that will assist our customers in achieving healthcare improvement through the smarter use of information technology."
