Ireland’s first fully integrated patient management system “An integrated system is greater than the sum of its parts. A single integrated electronic patient record can deliver care improvements that separate IT systems are just not capable of.” Jack Somers Southern Health Board
Information sharing for improved services To run an effective, caring healthcare organisation, healthcare professionals need to access accurate patient information whenever and wherever they need it.
Patient information doesn’t restrict itself to one particular hospital or clinic. It needs to flow throughout a care organisation, to everyone involved in care, from public health nurses to the acute hospitals and child health clinics.
The Southern Health Board is using the latest information technology to help them achieve a clear objective – to fully integrate patient services across the continuum of care, so improving access to information and patient. Combining a number of different information systems into an interlinked whole means an end to duplicated patient information, lost reports and gaps in knowledge. With timely updated information at their fingertips, staff have the right support to make critical decisions.
A caring partnership The Southern Health Board selected leading healthcare software specialist iSOFT to help them achieve their plan.
iSOFT’s innovative i.Patient Manager system has been specially adapted to the Irish health system to provide an enterprise-wide system which can be accessed from any location by any authorised user. i.Patient Manager brings together information flows by integrating with or replacing disparate systems. Beginning with Cork University and Tralee General Hospitals, an information network has been rolled out which is affecting every single person who comes into contact with the Board.
Mobile benefits for the whole team As the patient’s first point of contact, it is essential that primary care professionals such as public health nurses have the information available to work together as a team despite being located miles apart. The flexibility of the i.Patient Manager system enables patient information to be updated and accessed through devices such as palm computers, telephones and the Internet. These easy to use tools will free up administrative time spent on paperwork or contacting the centre. As a result, there is less time spent on administration and more time concentrating on care.
The future iSOFT and Southern Health Board are continuing their effective partnership to integrate patient management information even further across the extended community.
“Through i.Patient Manager, we are achieving our corporate objectives to fully integrate our patient services across a wide range of community based care. This is resulting in two things: the first fully-integrated Patient Management System in Ireland and securing our position as a leading reference site for iSOFT in Europe.” Jack Somers Southern Health Board
