iSOFT signs Mexican marketing deal

As a first step in the agreement with Sistemas Integrales de Información en Salud (SIIS), iSOFT’s hospital information system, x-HIS, is currently being installed in Monterrey’s new women’s and children’s hospital in the state of Nuevo León.

Under the agreement, which covers the marketing, distribution and installation of iSOFT solutions in Mexico, SIIS, a supplier of health IT services, becomes iSOFT‘s official partner in Mexico. SIIS will promote iSOFT’s products in the Mexican health system, especially its x-HIS software and associated departmental solutions, with the ultimate aim of providing a better service to Mexican public health institutions and the country’s private hospitals.

The installation of x-HIS in Monterrey is the first commercial action linked to the new agreement. The new hospital will use the iSOFT solution for system management and hospital control. The application will become operational in March 2007 with the implementation of the admission and emergencies modules and, later, the rest of the hospital will be computerised, including medical records, infirmary, emergencies, operating theatres, radiology, pharmacy and invoicing. The hospital, which has a total of 250 beds, will install electronic medical records to manage patients’ files, making it one of the most advanced hospitals in the country in the field of information systems.

Dr Jose Antonio Maraboto Martinez, President of SIIS, said: “The agreement established with iSOFT’s Spanish business unit for the distribution of its hospital information system, x-HIS, is a step forward that will improve the quality of medical care in our country’s health sector. Thanks to these systems, patient care will improve, simplifying and streamlining the administrative procedures that will enable maintenance of clinical reports, ordered and classified in electronic clinical files.”

Doctor of Biology Jose Loyal Alfonso Flores, Vice-chairman of SIIS, said: “These hospital information systems are being installed for the first time in Mexico on the initiative of the state health authorities who are conscious that the application of information systems contributes to improving the management of health services and the medical care given to citizens. This initiative streamlines access to health services and brings about improved quality in the care given to patients, reinforcing, at the same time, the required knowledge base for clinical and administrative decision-making.”
