Mexico’s oldest hospital has chosen iSOFT’s hospital information system, x-HIS, to computerise the hospital at all levels, including electronic medical records, in a three-year deal worth 40 million Mexican pesos (£1.8m).
The implementation of x-HIS in the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara is iSOFT’s second major contract in Mexico after its Spanish subsidiary signed a market development agreement with Mexican company SiiS (Sistemas Integrales de Información en Salud) in December 2006 for the distribution, marketing and implementation of iSOFT’s IT solutions in the Mexican republic. The Guadalajara Civil Hospital, which is 213 years old, has embarked on a process of modernisation, and is using the x-HIS solution as a management and hospital control tool. The hospital deals each day with around 1,500 medical consultations, 300 emergencies, 130 hospital admissions and 90 surgical procedures, and will computerise nearly all its departments. A unique medical record will allow patients’ medical histories to be managed electronically, making a substantial improvement in healthcare for citizens. Care staff will have a clinical tool providing accurate information about point-of-care tests, previous diagnoses, test results and care provided by the nursing unit. Furthermore, the system will support the management team to help optimise the use of time and costs. Meanwhile, the implementation of x-HIS at the Women and Children’s Hospital in the Mexican city of Monterrey, is now complete. The first joint project between iSOFT and SiiS began in January. The hospital now has management and clinical solutions for admissions, A&E, outpatients, nursing, medical station, invoicing, logistics, prescriptions, radiology and pharmacy.
