iSOFT software manages non-healthcare services at Madrid hospitals in award-winning project

A project featuring a system developed by iSOFT Spain for seven hospitals run by administrative concession in the Autonomous Community of Madrid has been awarded the “Professor Barea” Prize in the field of multi-entity projects.

Under the €300,000 Non-healthcare Service Supervision and Protocolisation project, iSOFT has designed, developed and installed an Incident Management System (IMS) for contractors providing services at seven new hospitals in Madrid. The IMS helps contractors (or concessionaries) responsible for building and hospital services to manage and control cleaning, transport, maintenance, security, catering, waste, storage and administrative staff as well as receptionists and telephone switchboard services. At the Puerta de Hierro of Majadahonda Hospital, the IMS software is also managing clinical and administrative documentation.

Based on health industry standards such as HL7, XML and DICOM, the iSOFT solution is fully integrated with existing hospital information systems. It also complies with the rigorous security demands of the Spanish Data Protection Act including data encryption and access passwords.

The first two stages of the project are now finished with iSOFT completing the functional and technical design of the application, development and validation. The company is now installing its IMS system on a central server and about to go-live at each of the seven hospitals.

iSOFT’s solution is being installed at the Puerta de Hierro de Majadahonda Hospital, Hospital del Sureste (Arganda), Hospital del Sur (Parla), Hospital del Noroeste (Coslada), Hospital de Vallecas, Hospital del Norte (San Sebastián de los Reyes) and Hospital del Tajo (Aranjuez). The IMS will provide online service to over 800 users.

Julio Bou, managing director of iSOFT Spain, IBA Health Group’s business unit for Spain, Portugal and Latin America, said: “We are extremely proud to be involved in this project, in which we continue to demonstrate our capacity to innovate and adapt to the needs of the healthcare sector. This information system is considered by experts to increase efficiency in providing hospital services and will also serve as a model for other autonomous communities of Spain. We believe the functionality of the system is unique and we are currently unaware of any other solution that covers the functions of the IMS. On behalf of iSOFT, I offer my most sincere congratulations to the Health Council of the Autonomous Community of Madrid for its continued commitment to the incorporation of information technologies into healthcare.”
