iSOFT, an IBA Health Group company, today announced the appointment of Dr Michael Dahlweid as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr Dahlweid will have responsibility across the group to maximise the benefits of patient safety for new and existing technology, ensuring iSOFT’s systems support clinicians in providing better, safer patient care.

A key part of the role is to direct future developments to ensure that iSOFT’s products continue to be developed from a clinicians’ perspective and provide appropriate clinical functionality to improve patient care.

Additionally, Dr. Dahlweid will take on the Global Product Director role to drive and operationalise iSOFT’s unique portfolio roadmaps, new software releases and future product strategies.

Gary Cohen, Executive Chairman and CEO of IBA Health, said: “Dr Dahlweid’s appointment represents a key milestone in the continuing progress and commitment by iSOFT to delivering creative, effective and clinically safe solutions. He will represent the voice of our clinical customers, and will collaborate with our customers and industry leaders to foster new ways of improving healthcare quality and patient safety.

“Dr Dahlweid has a unique combination of skills that go beyond the medical knowledge and clinical experience required of a Chief Medical Officer to also encompass extensive information technology, production and product management experience. We are thrilled with Dr Dahlweid’s decision to join the iSOFT team and we look forward to the positive impact he will have while leading our clinical development activities.”

Dr Dahlweid has served as a practicing doctor in Accident & Emergency and Trauma, but also graduated in Medical Informatics, which has enabled him to take on leadership roles in both the clinical and healthcare IT fields. He ran a small start-up company specialising in eHealth, and has since headed production and product management for several leading healthcare IT companies.

Additionally, he has taken on advisory roles for European governments and is a lecturer in Healthcare Information Management at various universities. Before entering the IT sector Dr Dahlweid was also CIO for a German hospital group.
